Lisa Helfer has been promoted to Auburn equestrian associate head coach after spending four and a half years as an assistant for the Tigers, Head Coach Greg Williams announced Wednesday.
Helfer is in her fifth season coaching at Auburn and he
lped lead the Tigers to an overall National
Championships in 2011.
“Auburn has been blessed to have someone as talented as Coach Helfer on staff,” Williams said. “I don’t think I could ask to have someone who first cares about the girls so much, but second, can support all that she asks them to do with sound reasons and coaching philosophy. She is a gifted coach.”
In each of her first four years Helfer coached the western team to winning seasons. In 2010, after a 12-2 season, the western team was the second seed at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships and followed that by earning the third seed in the in 2011 Championships. Helfer also coached individual riders at the Championships.
“I was very honored, and honestly humbled,” Helfer said. “I love working with this equestrian team and with these girls. I’m looking forward to helping us win another championship.”
Helfer has been working in the equestrian field for more than 27 years. She graduated from the University of Findlay in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in western equestrian studies with a minor in business management. She is currently completing her master's in adult education and sports management.
The Tigers return to the arena to host the Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Saturday, January 28, 2011, at the Auburn University Horse Center at 1 p.m. CT.
